Earlier this week I purchased a Sony 34" widescreen (kv34hs510) for roughly about 1800. However I just discovered today that the Best Buy in my area has the Phillips 34" widescreen (34PW850H) on sale for 799.99. Personally I think that price might be a mistake but since they have it displayed I can likely make them sell me the set for that price.

So my first question is: How much of a difference is the picture quality between the Sony and the Philips?

Whats the overall opinion on the Philips set?

I'm thinking with the 1000 bucks I can save if I returned the Sony and bought the Philips I can afford to pick up a couple of quality LCD panels for my PCs. Decisions, decisions.

My other question has to do with satellite feeds. I have the Dishnetwork service and I'm using the dishpvr501 receiver, I never had a problem with the receiver before but seeing the feed on the Sony I realized that the picture sucks. I'm using the S video output from the sat. box and the picture is very pixelated. Is this just a weakness of that particular receiver or do I need to calibrate the TV? Are there any sat. boxes that have component outputs?

Finally my last question is dealing with the home theatre units (DVD receivers and speakers). I bought a Samsung unit (HD-DB120TH) for about 199.99, it outputs 250w and has a 5.1 setup with Dolby Pro Logic and DTS decoding. The picture quality of the DVD is really good with progressive cables, however the sound is a bit weak. I tend to crank my speakers up really loud when watching certain movies and unfortunately the 40w per channel is just a little underpowered in my opinion. So I'm thinking of going with another home theatre system with a little more power. Does anyone have some suggestions on a better HT system?

Is that difference worth $1100? The decision is obvious son!

In regards to your audio question, do you intend to buy another system in a box or are you going to go with a more conventional seperate purchases route?

I'll definitely do another system in a box, I love the easy setup and I don't have to take up a lot of space on my audio rack.

The connecting is the same as if you use separate components... Unless you're talking some proprietary stuff.

That and components really aren't that big these days. If you want loud movies, you're going to have to deal with larger speakers and a reciever. I guess you could always just get BOSE too... :D
