Hi all,

I want an Nvidia chipset card to replace my driver unstable Radeon 8500. Can anyone recommend which one to get based on this for gaming (no crazy framerates for me as its lag in connection that is hurting my framerates) and general PC use:

Price: $150 or cheaper
128 MB RAM
Noise: Little or none (I can deal with little)
and STABILITY!

Nvidia chipset only please!

Thanks!

in the video forum, the only way to get information is to start a nvidia/ati flame war. people will then post usefull links to valueable information in order to prove the other wrong. so in other words, change your title to My 8500 SUX, screw ATI, or something of the like. i gurentee that you will get more replies. and possibly some info burried in the flame war.

vote 5600, new egg has some for 150

Send me your 8500. :)

And you can replace it with a perfectly-good TI4200 which suprised me at how well it competes against nVidia's own new offerings. If you get a GOOD 4200 you can get some nice speeds out of it....
...but you can't really go wrong with a 5600 if you want DX9 for some reason. (It's currently useless... someday it won't be.)

The 4200 should be close to $100, the 5600 more like $150 if you shop right. Keep your eyes peeled in the "Hot Deals" thread. :D

i got myself an Albertron Geforce FX 5600 128MB videocard for $140us ... ( $290au ) from

Aus PC market

Ive had no problems with this card it works fine and it scores 10500 in 3Dmark2001 and 2700 in 3Dmark 2003
i used to have a Geforce4 Ti4200 64mb card and it scored 10000 in 3Dmark2001 and 1400 in 3Dmark 2003
i hear the Geforce4 Ti4200 cards are really cheap these days but i think its worth spending the extra $25 on a Direct X9 videocard even if it isnt that much faster .... it will run your 3Dmark2003 fully .. and probably run better in newer games hehe

ive had no problems with the card and it runs well on my 230w power supply in my micro ATX computer ...
its not the fastest videocard around but it looks nice eye candy its stable and its a Direct X9 card thats better
then a ATI8500 and 9000 and the ATI 9600... Non Pro version ....

i highly recommend it .... Price is awesome for what you get

:)

dx9 isnt useless, dosent one test in 3dmark03 use it or something? lol

seriously tho, when are games supposed to come out that support it and what exactly does it do for games?

Matt

edit: i would also recommend the 5600 for that price range

Well thanks for getting so many replies so fast. So it's between a 4200 and a 5600. I will check out reviews on them and then deside. BTW I will probably sell my 8500 on trade forums once I get the new one up and running.

Actually the hot chick on the box that looks like Aki Ross from the Final Fantasy movie has made me decide to buy it. :D

Yep Gainward is a very good brand for Nvidia cards, another good brand to look for would be Leadtek.
