Video glasses - does anyone here use em?

The new higher end ones (from Vusix, etc) are marketed as being the same as basically having a 75" LCD in front of you, and it's a "private" view with no outside distractions. It sounds really really awesome to be honest. Like playing games on that, wouldn't that be the coolest thing ever? Does anyone here have em?

I used to have a pair! They are cool, and they were good, but mine were only SD so I stopped using them.

Also they can give you a headache after a while... that may have just been me though.

Supposedly the Sony ones were around $700 - not that bad considering that you get the equivalent of a humongous screen with built in stereo sound and plug in via HDMI.

It really depends on your living situation though. For people like me that live in quiet apartments, then it would seem amazing, since there is no subwoofer thump to bother the neighbors, etc.. Especially useful if you have a wife that gets annoyed every time you fire up a super violent video game and doesn't want to hear the sounds of blood gushing and people getting torn apart while screaming (e.g. mortal kombat on the PS3).

Wouldn't mind giving them a shot but not for the money. Only thing I could see is it letting me play some MW3 while the wife wants to watch something else.

But I have a TV in my living room and a good enough one in my bedroom that it's really a non-issue for me.

I've noticed that the guys who fly FPV RC planes and helicopters almost ALL go this route over a regular display. (FPV = flying an RC craft using wirelessly streamed camera output rather than direct line of sight). I'm sure this is mostly to block sunlight from their view, but i'm thinking if the immersion is better, then it might be interesting for gaming or movies.

The native res of the glasses is actually only 852 x 480.

Epic fail

852 per eye. So I'd assume it stretches out the horizontal to 1704 pixels. But you can't change vertical so it's still 480p tops.

They tried this gimmick in the 90s and it never caught on. Probably because it gave people headaches and you looked like a dork wearing them.

I was wondering about this.

Pixel density and resolution on small displays is getting higher, so it makes sense that these would become more useable.

In a few years time we may finally start seeing full, entirely affordable VR console units with glasses w/headtracking and datagloves.

Dude, Imaging playing a boxing game with that... :awe:

Also I would like to see a gadget which attaches to your feet.

Imagine all the time people put into video games now - and then add exercise into the mix. A good game, with exercise involved, would be the panacea for the overweight american crowd. If the average person could get in 3-4 hours of exercise per session playing a video game, people would be in tip top shape in no time flat.

Guys I guess I'm gonna give em a shot - there's a 30 day money back guarantee, so if they suck I'll just return em. But something tells me they're not gonna suck. 😀
