Video Games for Non-Video Gamer?!

I'm sure I'm not the only one around here with the significant other who can't stand the all the time us gamers spend playing on our computers and console. With all the buzz this week with Gear of War, PS3, Nintendo and what not, I'm sure it has been even harder for us gamers to stop blabbing about video games to our girlfriends and wives!

Here's my situation; after a lot of bribes and sexual blackmail, I've convinced my girlfriend to sit and spend some time playing video games with me. Now the question is, where do I begin? FPS shooters are out of the question as she is not into killing and extremely violent games (read: no GoW!). I was thinking of installing some old school adventure games that we could play together so I went to grab my copy of Tex Murphy Overseer but it doesn't want to work on Windows XP. I was also thinking some of those old school Lucas Arts adventure games might be a good idea. They were fun, easy to play, and freaking hilarious (Day of the Tentacle!). I was wondering if people in similiar positions have converted non-gamers into gamers. What's the one gateway drug you have used to get them hooked? I have PC, Xbox, 360 and could obviously pick up emulators for even more old school things.

The only two games my wife has ever liked were Myst and The Sims. She'll play Mario Party with me once in a while, but gets very frustrated with it.

LOL. I don't know if I'm allowed to go into certain details there...

Seriously though, in terms of bribes, I basically did a lot of stuff that she knew I didn't want to do in exchange for the chance for her to sit and play video games with me. For instance, she missed last week's episode of the OC so I downloaded it for her and watched it with her. In exchange, I told her she has to try a game out with me for an hour. Just silly little compromises like that.

Now I thought Myst would be a good idea since that was always the most noobish video game I remember growing up. I remember always hating on it when I was young because it sold like 300x as many copies as Quake or whatever. What's the latest one? Myst 4?

Any other suggestions?

What about NES games like Mario? My friend's gf loves Mario 3 especially, and she is better than us at it. She also likes Donkey Kong Country. A couple other female friends like those games too. Could set her up with some of those!

And yes a lot of girls like The Sims.

Besides the Sims, try "A Tale in the Desert" for an MMORPG where you join others and build things in ancient Egypt - takes a lot of time - try Second Life...

Some might like the Civ games or 'Railroads'... Zoo Tycoon, SimCity... The Movies lets them make movies, City of Heroes gives them nice costumes, World of Warcraft/Everquest...

I tried this with my wife and my 360 when I first got it. We played a few rounds of Fight Night Round 3......she beat me 3 out of 5 rounds. I was mad as hell and told her I'd never play with her again. ;)

You can buy a 360 for $100 at amazon.com after the voting ends.

My GF is currently playing Gothic 3 on her PC , Resistance fall of man on my PS3 and will borrow my copy of gears of war next week. She plays everything ;(

Mario Kart for N64..one of my all time favorites. My girlfriend and all of her friends love that game, it's the only thing she will play. I don't know if you have an old N64 laying around, or you could mod your Xbox and get it.

Everyone in my family loves Wii sports...bowling, tennis, boxing, baseball, etc...Using the Wii controller is so easy and natural that anyone can play it. The ladies love tennis and bowling! :)

Anything Nintendo just about and Worms.

Worms is great, I'd say use the 2D version rather than the 3D newer ones or just use GunBound. I'm not a huge fan of GunBound when compared to Worms, but GunBound is free :p.
