Are video game systems still bad for TVs or was that a thing for older TVs, or was it even just a myth.

It's bad for projection televisions. Say you're playing sports games and you know how the games have the static scoreboard in the corner of the screen. The scoreboard can be burnt into the projection screen.

I still think theres a problem with burn in and rear projection tvs, but I'm not 100% sure.

It really only applies to rear projection or plasma TV's. Don't leave a static image displayed for too long or it will burn into the screen. I've got a regular CRT TV and it's got probably thousands of gaming hours on it and there's no burn in marks or patterns anywhere.

just projection tvs? I just got a n64, so i started playing it on my 36"...then lastnight, the tv had some funny lines once in a while for the first time. Could be coincidence, but i dont know.

ya, its just a 36" trinitron, so i should be fine?

It can be bad for direct-view televisions as well. My understanding is that some of the newer RP technologies such as LCOS or DLP do not have this issue.

The moral of the story is, if you're going to pause your game and walk away for a long time, turn off your TV.

3rd party adapters can fvck up your TV. I broke two with my Interact RF adapter for the N64. I didn't figure it out it was the adapter until a long time ago. (We threw both of the TVs away)

wrong answer.

*NOTHING* will burn into the projection screen...well...unless you take a match to it or something.

The CRTs may wear unevenly and you'll see that effect.

But, if the brightness/contrast is set properly, an RPTV will have no problems with video games. I've played countless hours of Madden on a PS2 on my 55" Mits widescreen and there are no problems with it.

But, I wouldn't leave it on a pause mode with the TV on for hours on end, either.
