Feeding into the victim-hood state of mind. Jesus this is pathetic and frankly I hope this guy loses his case. The effects of him winning will send a chilling effect to most game developers and how they operate. I can also imagine how this will probably end up with politicians jumping onto the bandwagon and "legislating" a big nanny government fix when the media vultures latch on to extreme cases of idiots tossing aside personal responsibility in life.

A federal judge has ruled that a man who says he's psychologically dependent and addicted to an online video game can proceed with some of his lawsuit against the game's South Korean manufacturer.

Craig Smallwood says "Lineage II" left him unable to function independently in daily activities, such as getting dressed, bathing or communicating with family and friends.

Smallwood says he's spent more than 20,000 hours playing the multiplayer online role-playing game since 2004. The 51-year-old says NCSoft Corp. never warned him about the danger of game addiction.

A Honolulu law firm that represents the company had urged that the case be dismissed, but U.S. District Judge Alan Kay in his Aug. 4 ruling allowed half of the eight counts to continue.

Has anyone in the US ever died of exhaustion / malnutrition due to video games like in China and Korea?

Sure these games are addicting, especially MMOs, but many legal products out there are habit forming. Everquest almost cost my Uncle his marriage and his job (was ignoring his wife and playing hooky from work to get his fix), but he never slapped a lawsuit on Sony.

This shit is ridiculous. It was his goddamn choice to play the fucking video game and get addicted, fuck him he's a piece of shit. Just like anyone who sued tobacco companies for cancer, they're pieces of shit too. Anyone who sues over an addiction is a piece of shit because they did it to themselves, no one fucking made them do a goddamn thing.

These technologies are vital for national self defense as they can make even the greatest wimp an ace drone pilot. We need folk who will get addicted to blowing real shit up.
