OK...so the amount of crap in there is mind boggling...it was the latest "R580 will beat 2 512 MB 7800 GTXs in SLI" as well as the "Rollo for Video Mod" that has brought me to make this post. Somewhere in the Rollo for mod thread i said that going into the forums and finding a new fanboy thread every other day was sickening.....and people agreed with me.

I'm tired of seeing people bash Rollo in every other post, I'm tired of seeing 5150 and BFG10K battle it out...The aforementioned people are just the ones that stick out, and seem most common, but there are others.

Most of these threads that cause crap are ones where there is NO PROOF to anything said....such as the R520 will destroy what nVidia can release for the next 10 years. I'm sick of it, none of this stuff has ANY basis. Its all heresay. I can mildly understand it if they want to talk about stuff appearing on futurmark's database, as that is tangible (although golden sample, it is still tangible.)

PLEASE do something to stop all of this....I remember when there was a post about 6800Us having lockup problems....that's when I join AT, and that thread helped me figure out to kill the Throttle on my 6800U....the video forums were usefull at that point, but right now they are reduced to bickering, flaming and trolling.

Yet another MOD please help me thread. You guys are on your own over there. We simply do not have the time to police all of the Fanboy threads, besides, most of them are nothing more than "spirited" debates. Well, debating is about winning and losing, not whining! Get over it people! If this tattling continues...I'm gonna spank some butts! Behave, damnit!

There has been way too much "Well what if ATI had released the XT six months ago?" or "What if ATI releases a good card someday?" or "What if Crossfire would have actually been usable?" posts lately.

Sour grapes "what ifs" by fans unwilling to accept what actually happened this year, trying to divert attention to former glory days and might have beens.

It's sort of sad to those of us who would actually rather discuss things that really did happen, and what prudent buying choices currently are.
 
People who post about problems with their cards in the Video Forum get great help very quickly, regardless of what is being said about Rollo at the time.

I say let people have some fun. Life is too short, and personal freedoms are very important. Without them, we would all be the same in a sense.

The first thing we need to do is start deleting garbage posts like this one.

It has absolutely no basis to exist in video regardless of who is having a little fun and the height of arrogance is the individual is telling other people to find another forum because he can't follow the rules.

And putting Rollo on a pedestal is quite frankly sickening because he's the biggest nVidia troll to ever to hit the video forum. We should put an auto-delete on any thread that mentions his name in the title.

I personally think that from now on anyone who knowingly posts an off topic thread in video should be given an instant two week ban.

I have been having problems getting help.....my threads get knocked down to the bottom pretty quickly by the stupid "this thread is all heresay, all fanboys welcome" threads.

Regardless as to whether Rollo is a troll, he is: controlled, he doesn't lash out. He usually offers seom source for what he says...reputable or not; one of MANY. I see people go into threads and say "this one is better"....no reason......no proof. Just its better.

I'm tired of it. I don't mind the occasional debate on upcoming hardware, but this is SICKENING. Rollo may be an NV troll, but with all the "R580 will dominate" crap, it seems the majority are ATI fanboys.

PLEASE, someone do something about this!!!

I've been saying for a long time that duplicate threads should be locked but a bunch of people kept getting offended because their thread was needed to express their opinion that was more important than the other opinions already plastering the main page.

There's nothing wrong with hardware speculation, the problem in video is that there's too much noise and not enough signal and this is why the genuine threads get squashed.

My suggestions for a cleanup:
  • Delete off topic threads immediately and dish out instant two week bans to anyone who knowingly and posts them.
  • Lock duplicate threads that have branched off main threads for no good reason. If a topic is repeatedly being reposted (e.g. when a new video card is released) then create a sticky to consolidate all of the threads and demand everyone posts there.
  • Lock blatant troll threads. If the premise is weak to begin with then chances are it's just somebody mouthing off about something they have no clue about and they have too much time on their hands. The way I see if, if you want to create a thread there had better be a damned good reason for it. Idle comments just to wind people up should not be tolerated.
  • Stop edit abuse. There have been a few instances in the past few days were certain individuals have come back and edited posts days after they were created and made them sound completely different to what was originally posted, thus making all current commentary useless. What's worse is that these people have then complained in forum issues about other members, after their edits had removed any evidence against themselves. A 10 minute limit to edit posts is reasonable IMO.
 
all online threads have @sshats like that. they exaggerate things and harrass people. Usually they get banned...perhaps the mods should start cracking down harder. HARDER MODS!

Well, I for one suggest a sort of system like what we have at Tweaks R Us: dedicated Mods for different Forums. For example, 2 or 3 Mods dedicated to the Video forum, preferably someone unbiased and fair. Also, someone who already HAS Mod experience, and is not one who would abuse their "Power" 😉 . Obviously, the other "regular" AT Mods would monitor the "new" mods to make sure their power isn't being abused or something, and if the power was being abused, then the appropriate action would be taken.

On how to pick these new Mods, the existing Mods would nominate who, in their opinion, is the best qualified, based on experience, character, ect. The Mods would post topics in the forums where these users are nominated for Moderation duties, and the users would vote on what they believe is the best qualified for the position. The top 2-3 choices would become Mods in the forums in which they were nominated.

Maybe it would work, and then again, maybe it wouldn't 😉 .

While i like that way, we cant have that. AT forums are >10,000x larger than the XG forums. We cant have the mods identities revealed for them to be harrassed, we cant conduct all these polls and stuff and nominate people for those positions. Obviously there are a few people who i think would do an admirable job as mod, but the forums are simply too large for that.

I think the mods have really stepped up a lot of things in the forums. If you look at all the previous FI threads about this topic, they say that "Whatever happens in Video, stays in Video". There is a very simply way out of this.

  • If a thread is going to be contraversial and you know that you are going to have a problem in it, then dont go in it.

    If a thread is an obvious troll post we dont have to (although it may be fun occasionally 😉) to point it out. Doing that only attracts attention to those people who are there for that very purpose.

    Honestly, this isn't against the rules, but we could really clean up the speculation threads. I personally dont mind a speculation thread, however when it states that this card is going to kill this card or something like that, it kills the discussion. If you have a speculation then post the stats, and let users come to their own conclusions. We dont have to say "This card will be 5983485x faster than this card"

    We all dont have to go in there acting big and tough. Have some plain common courtesy and respect. If you are badass in real life or something then fine, but respect peoples opinions.

    Finally fanboys. They are not against the rules, it is just their personal opinion. What is against the rules is when they begin posting blatant flame threads, in which no good can come of it (Zinn2b, Intelia to an extent). If you see someone who is a fanboy, what good is it going to do to point it out and argue with him. Just let them believe what they want.

I love helping people out, but sometimes you just say your peace, maybe debate a little and then drop it. Not everyone has to do things one way.

i cant think of anyone else

and actually matthias has pissed me off multiple times but overall i'd trust him with my own membership and i think he'd be fair. the other two are clearly mature adults with level heads.
people fear Rollo becoming a mod, but he'd be fair.

He'd have to be.. a senior mod would be watching his EVERY move for quite some time I'm sure.

But I know rollo and can attest to his character.

I would never want to be a mod (due to time constraints), nor do I take forums seriously enough to be fair.
at least im honest.
 
Time to take video off my ever shrinking forums list. It's a pitty really, there used to be some good info in there. The problem is that every single thread that mentions ATI gets derailed by the same people, every single time. A troll is a troll, even when he's well spoken.
I'll find a new place for video info, and hope that the trolls don't invade the other hardware forums.

I completely agree with southpawni (except about matthias pissing people off). Every single one of those people while they can go overboard (some more than others 😉) they are all very respectful people, and mature.

Shoot, i would love to be a mod but no one would vote for me :\ ... plus those guys would probably do a better job than I.

Like I stated, I'd trust Matthias with power over my membership status, and I think he'd protect me from some of the personal attacks Ive encountered better than the current mods on the other hand as well.
