I recently purchased a DV camcorder and I am now trying to edit/covert the video on my PC and having some SERIOUS problems.

I can capture the video to my PC using Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6.0 in standard .avi format, but as you can imagine the file sizes are HUGE (ie: 30secs = ~100MBs).

So, I take that .avi and use Terran Cleaner 5.0 to convert to .mpg file format and it compresses to ~7MB in size but I have NO sound. I can get it to convert to 1 file with no sound or 2 seperate files, mpg and .mp3/2, but the audio file, when played, is silent. ie: NO SOUND.

What am I doing wrong here? Who can help and give me any other recommendations?
Ideally I'd like to get it to the .mpg format, edit it as needed (scene changes, remove the boring parts etc) and then convert to DiVX and burn to CD-ROM for archival purposes.

I've been working at this for what seems forever now and I am at my wits end on it. I have a $2000 that is doing me NO GOOD.

HELP!!!!

Why is it 100MB?

Because you captured it in RAW DV Format. Use the Divx ;-) codec or save it as a MPG file in MediaStuido.

Homer , there is a small program that has been floating around a while called avi2mpeg that works pretty well . It appreciates a pretty fast machine to work it's magic though . Best to do it while you are sleeping . Email me if you can't find it and I will email it to you.
