Video Encoding: Do Dual Channel or more RAM beyond 512MB make a difference?

I've read that the only thing that really matters in encoding video is CPU speed. I have a system (P4 2.53 running at 3.5) that I use only for capturing, encoding and burning DVD's from video tapes. Currently I'm using a single 512MB stick of RAM. From what I've seen, going to dual channel won't make a significant difference, but I'd like to hear what others think. Also, will going to 1GB make a significant difference (using W2K)? And what about moving from a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 to a Raptor? Thanks.

More RAM will do nothing but help your system cope better with future apps that will require that much RAM, as for now, most people would agree, 512MB is adequate. But dual channel = better

Yea, in the future, who knows, but RAM is expensive, and you don't just want to "buy it to have it" So good call, I'd totally agree with you there.
