I need to make a bunch of still shots to be put into a premiere project that is 16:9 and will be played on a 16:9 plasma tv. premiere list the resolution for 16:9 and 4:3 as 720x480 with the 16:9 having a pixel aspect ratio of 1.2 and the 4:3 having a pixel aspect ratio of 1.0, how do i make the stills so they won't get stretched or distorted?

it appears that dvd players handle this stuff differently. on one of my home dvd players, all looks prett good when i make the stills 853x480, and the other plays it in 4:3 even though it is set to 16:9 in the dvd player and it is created as 16:9. the plasma cuts off both edges...

now i tried it at 720x405, which is the constrained scaled down size from 853x480. my computer dvd player - powerdvd, plays it in the 16:9 ratio, but with black bars all the way around it. one of my home players does the same thing, and the other home one player plays it so it fills up the entire screen with a little black bar on top and on bottom. does anybody know the exact pixel size for 16:9 video even though premiere shows it at 720x480? is there a way to make/convert a still with a aspect ratio of 1.2 instead of 1.0?

I'm not sure exatly how to do it because I don't have Premiere installed on this computer, but I would take a look at Photoshop CS and under the Image menu you have Pixel Aspect Ratio.

Try playing around with that and see if it works. I think you can make the pixel aspect ratio 1.2 and then make your pictures look how you want. The file will still be the 720x480 required, but you should be able to import it as 16:9 and have it look the way it's supposed to. On a 4:3 screen, though, it will either be letterboxed or squished.

Well, I'm sure there's a mathmatical way to do it, but in order to use a 4x3 square picture file you're supposed to make it 720x534 for DV files. You should be able to use that number to make find the 16:9 resolution instead of 4:3. That might work as well.

Your easiest bet is with PS:CS, though.

ps:cs does it.....although there is a little distortion in the pic since my camera takes pics with a 1.0 pixel aspect, but i don't think anybody but me will know there is an issue. people viewing will be 10-15' away from a 42" plasma. to them it will look perfect. :) when i encode to dvd, i will select the progressive option since i think that will keep even more of the quality. i am making these @ 72dpi, since they will be viewed on a tv, will see how it turns out. i don't think i need any more resolution.

another question - what is an easy to read font that has kind of a euro/modern look? i have eurose in the video currently but don't think it is going to work as it pretty hard to read from a distance and it is already at sizes 18-24, don't want to make it to big and take up too much of the video...
