Video editing software?

I'd like to make some movies of me playing some games and mix them with some of my music and ideas to see what I'm capable of. Do any of you have any recommendations for editing software? Something where I can take a video clip of mine and edit it by taking frames or such out. Also, how do people capture themselves playing their games? I'm really interested in this but don't know where to begin.
 
I just looked into this.

From what I could tell, Ulead Videostudio 6 and Pinnacle Studio 7 are the two top choices in reviews.

Ulead lets you write VCD's and DVD's but the Pinnacle software is a little better for titles and other special effects. I decided on and bought the Ulead software.
