Could someone recommend me some easy to use programs?
I tried Vegas, but it's simply horrible and absolutely counter-intuitive.

I only need some basic functionality, like cut parts of videos and put them together elsewhere, possibly add some very basic effects, some fade in/out, save the result in the original format without rendering anything for who knows how long, etc.
It doesn't have to be free, but since I only intend to mess around with short gameplay footage (and only occasionally), I don't want to spend much on this.

Uh. I'd rather use Vegas than that. Sorry, that's an abomination of a program.

Try powerdirector by cyberlink. I always found it to be more intuitive than anything made by adobe, or similar to adobe. I'm a left brained person, so most video/photo software makes no sense to me.

I think that if you are new to editing videos, you need a simple program. I don't think Vegas is counter-intuitive at all. But it is quite complicated and likely overwhelming if you are new to everything about editing.

I started with Windows Movie Maker and loved it. It has all the basics you need, is ROCK stable, and very intuitive. I don't think it does 1080p though - even if you make simple movies you may want 1080p. I'm talking about the older version of Windows Movie Maker - perhaps it came with Windows Vista or even XP. Windows LIVE Movie Maker tries to over simplify everything and I really disliked it.

I tried Premiere elements and hated it. Admitably, I used a version from a few years ago - but it was very slow and unstable for me, and not very intuitive.

I now use Vegas and love it. I find it to be very stable, and intuitive for the most part. It does most everything I want to do, and the few things it can't do are in the pro version which I am not ready to spend the money on.

Those are the only programs I have experience with.

I tried the Cyberlink Powerdirector and couldn't even figure out how to select part of a video and copy it. I guess I am hopeless :D

What is wrong with Adobe Premiere Element? It is light version of heavy duty Premiere Pro and it is good for novice users.
Good luck

That's what i use. I got a nice deal on both Photoshop and Premiere a few months ago. In fact it was cheaper than buying the same package with the student discount.

I find it covers most of my needs.
