Video Editing Software that is free and can recognize Windows Movie Maker projects

i made a lovely video in Windows Movie Maker, but when i try to save it to a movie file, i get an error. i think it's the program, and i want to find a new one and make this video. or better yet, maybe someone knows how to fix the problem... i'm getting this message

I know that i checked this stuff 3 times, it's all fine

Is the original footage still on the HDD? Did you move it to a different location at some point? What are you trying to save it as? Generally when you "save" the file it will add an extension to the file so that MM will see it as a project.

Or are you trying to export it to AVI, MPEG or somethin like that?

The error message makes it seem that it can't find the original file/footage that you edited, which means the "saved" file can't "link" to it.

Other than that- Premiere Elements works great, but you have to pay for it :-(
