Video Editing - Processors

Am still making my snails pace research into upgrading my machine for a backup video editing "emergency" machine. Would like your opinion on the i5 650 vs. i5 760

650 is faster clock and higher turbo, but only 2 cores while 760 is 4 core.

For a program like Premiere Pro, which is thread intensive, would 4 cores be better, or will the processor speed increase be more noticeable? 760 has no hyper threading, so theoretically, same number of threads.

But those 2 logical cores on the i5-650 is not equal to the 2 real physical cores on the i5-760. 4 physical cores >>> 2 physical cores + 2 logical cores

With turbo boost, isn't the i5-760 capable of hitting 3.3 GHz or so for single threaded apps?

I wouldn't even consider buying any of the i5 dual cores.

This. The i5 760 will be faster for Premiere without a doubt.

Will be using a gtx 460 with the text file edit.

So far all I have read on Adobe forums points to Intel processors, but after seeing this: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/cpu-benchmark-highend_8.html#sect1 , am considering the X6 1075. Comments?

If this is going to be a dedicated editing rig, the 1075T makes a lot of sense. TPC (total platform cost) should be a bit lower with an AMD solution as well.

Won't be dedicated. Just for emergency use. Other stuff will be everyday office use. Don't really know enough to compare the x6 with the i series, though. Do you think the AMD will perform as well?

i5 760 or better or 1055T or better. The i5 is more for games. There is a plethora of editing suites which will make use of more than 4 processor cores. If you are using Vegas, CS5, AVID, ect. you will most certainly want the 6 core 10xxT series processor. What do you use now? You may want to use this in it's place and use this one as your primary depending what your primary rig has under the hood.

The i5 760 will be better for everyday use due to its higher single-threaded performance. I'd probably stick with the i5 760 in your case because it's not like the i5 is slow for Premiere, it's just not as fast as the 1075T.
