Video Editing Possible?

With the specs listed above will it be possible to do any video editing? Just basic family video stuff. My father bought a Video Camera with firewire and would like to store on a HD and then Burn to DVD-R.

As big and fast as it needs to be in a chassy on USB 2.0 high speed.
