Video Editing Machine

I'm Building a multimedia machine for a family member and would like to know the best graphics card out there for this purpose. The machine will be used for editing and viewing various video file types including mpeg1 and mpeg2 and possibly Divx. She is not a gamer so gaming is not an issue. Most of the video will be coming from a digital camcorder. The monitor will be a Sony G420 19".

Thanks.

If you want the best card out there !!! so you say in your post your looking at a Quadro FX 2000 Card Best Image QT and best Performance in video editing that thing will cost you around $1500

in my Opinion a 32MB Geforce2mx400 will play all your Divx's and do all your video editing just fine it's more dependent on CPU and Memory then Videocard

If i was you i would just get a

64MB ATI 9000 it cost's $60 and that will give u good picture QTY and do more then everything you want it too just get one with video in and video out you may require the port's on the card. and dont forget to download latest drivers from ATI.com

Geforce FX 5200 is ok but not worth really spending the extra $30 if you ask me. thats $30 better off spent on Extra Ram if you dont have 256MB's or ram in this computer then get some more 512 is a good number for watching Divx's glitch free ... 256Mb's will do fine too but thats only if your using a good System 800Mhz + CPU

You only require a good Video card when your doing 3D rendering and using 3D modelling Programs.

For Video Editing get one of those new 800 FSB Pentium 4 CPU's or an Athlon XP Bartron core using 512k cash and 333FSB or 400FSB

Divx's require allot of CPU power a good 2Ghz Athlon or 2.5Ghz P4 will do a 2 pass 700MB divx encode in 2 hours a 800Mhz CPU will do it in 13 hours 🙂 think about that.

The video card just sits there and waits to play the files when there done. and it does its jobe very well.

to get a Top of the line 3D Graphics card is pointless your only watching video files with it.

If you want the best program for divxing DVD's / video Files go to doom9 and download
Gordian Knot its awsome .. and dont forget to get the Codac Pack with Xvid and Divx 5.05
