Hi guys,

I've have been using my Intel Core2 Quad rig for over 2 years now. I think it is time for an upgrade . I am currently craving for a i7-2600K based configuration. Should I upgrade now or should I wait for Ivy Bridge ?

My main usage is for Photoshop, Video Editing , a bit of Gaming, Coding etc. Pretty much my main desktop at work. I DONT plan to overclock.

Recnetly , I replaced my 3 year old macbook with a top end 15inch macbook pro running on a 2.5 GHz Quad core i7 and since then my old PC seems very slow :p

Here is my current config

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz
Intel Motherboard with 8GB of RAM
NVIDIA Geforce GTS 250 Graphics Card with 1GB of memory
Kingston 60GB SSD as Boot Drive
2TB Seagate Hard Drive with Sata 3 support (Sata 3 not supported by Motherboard currently)
750W SMPS
Win7 64Bit

Need suggestions for the new config

CPU - Preferably i7 2600K or anything in that price range
Hard drive - may be get a Sata 3 SSD which supports 6gpbs and retain the 2TB drive

RAM- how about 2 sticks of 8GB RAM vs 4 sticks of 4GB RAM ? 16GB should be cool right ?

GPU- Need a good graphics card with around 2GB of RAM.

Motherboard - need a board which is solid and has lots of room for expansion.

SATA 3/ RAID , USB3,HDMI etc. Intel or Asus ?

Power - will my 750W smps support the new rig ?

Get this moved to general hardware, copy>paste and fill out the sticky from the top of that forum and you are more likely to get some answers. :D

thks for the link and numbers

Is the i7 platform stable as of now. I'm sure ivy bridge is faster and has performance gains over i7 but just paranoid about ivy bridge being a bit buggy at release time.
