Some additional questions
- do you live near a Microcenter?
- what size is the C300?
- you can reuse your HDD's, only buy more if you need additional space
- I assume you also have an optical drive?
- your Prolimatech Megashadow should have LGA1156 installation brackets; if you still have these, you should be able to reuse the cooler as well since LGA1155 and the new LGA1150 motherboards use the same mounting holes as LGA1156 boards

I know this is only an $800 build, but I think you can upgrade some parts to make it better.

Duncan33303's $800 Editing Build:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiml6FxkWHo

For example, you can change the 650 Ti Boost to a higher end card like the 770, adding a lot of money to the build, making it about $1000. If you upgrade a few things here and there, I think you will get a very well performing $1200 build.

Great build.

But you don't need 650W. I would lower the wattage and increase the efficiency: Seasonic G550 $80. Also 2 more years of warranty and arguably better quality (Seasonic > Sirtec in general).

Also you can optionally reuse your 2x4GB of G.Skill and add another 2x4GB of RAM with the same specs, preferably the exact same kit you bought earlier. That'd save you a few dozen $

Question: how essential is a video card for video editing aside from decoding HD? Or is the answer software dependent?

Software-dependent, though most most software can benefit from low-end cards. However, some really low-end cards, like the GT 610, or HD 6450, can be slower than some integrated GPUs (AMD's A-series chips can make sense for budget users, because of this, if getting an Intel CPU would also mean having to buy a $60+ video card). The Geforce GT 640 and GTX 650, and Radeon HD 6770 and 7750, are good ones to get so as not to worry about a GPU bottleneck, but also not pay a ton for (the 650 or 7750 would also be good enough for strategy and MMO games, with a ~1080P monitor).

The HD 7950 recommended to the OP is very much for gaming.

P.S. Just saw the other thread...
