This machine this problem occurs with is a WIn NT 4.0 (sp6a)/Win95 dual port. There is no problem with the Win95 side of things, the problem is with Win NT 4.0.
A recently got a ELSA Gladiac. However, the little socket the fan plugs into on the PCB came loose from the PCB, so I need to send it back for repair. However, when I put my previous video card back in, I discovered NT would not let me change my drivers. After a call to Elsa Tech Support and some digging around the registry, it was determined that the Gladiac driver install was incomplete somehow (but appear to be fine otherwise). This is problem one, which leasd to problem 2...
After trying to reinstall drivers in VGA mode, which had the same problem, I decided to install a set of drivers which could be installed installed using a setup program instead of going through the display dialog box. I though I would be able to to use my Leadtek S320II for this. I put the card in and ran setup.exe of the CD thinking it would detect which OS I was running and install the right drivers. As it turned out, these were win95 drivers only, and now when I try to open the display control panel, I get a complaint about desk.cpl. Also when NT boots up, I get a RUNDLL complaint. I put the elsa card back in after taping down the fan plug socket, and reinstalled the Gladiac drivers (which are installable with a setup program under NT). Had to get third party screen resolution changing software though.
So I need too things. One, what do I need to do to repair the damage done by installing Win95 drivers. 2, assuming the Win95 did not somehow fix the original problem, is there a way to deal with uninstalling an incomplete driver install?
At this point, someone is bound to suggest reinstalling NT. I tried reinstallign NT over my old NT install. For some reason, this does not work. The installer cannot find the boot device, which is a standard IDE drive, not SCSI (though there are 2 SCSI drives on it, they are not boot drives). The DOS installer sees the drive, but does not recognize the format (which is FAT btw). I really want to avoid wiping the drive and starting over. It would probably take me a week to rebuild all my installed software. I have a lot of it.
