Hello,

I am having a problem getting NVIDIA drivers to load on my new build. The components are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @2.66
Asus P5GC-MX/1333
Crucial Ballistix 2x1GB DDR2 800 (4-4-4-12)
EVGA e-GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB
Windows Vista x64
CoolerMaster Case (Not sure which at the moment)

I have verified I have the latest drivers for the chipset, on-board audio, LAN, and the BIOS on the motherboard are up-to-date. My problem occurs every time I install the graphic driver -

After the install and reboot, I see the scrolling bar of lights at the bottom of the screen, then the screen goes blank and my monitor light turns amber indicating it is not receiving a video signal. Windows continues to load as I can hear the little chime played when the login screen is displayed. I can even type in my password (even though I cannot see it) and log into windows. I have tried every possible sequence I can think of - Installing Vista x64, then downloading updates, then installing graphic driver; Installing Vista x64, then graphic driver; Installing vista x64, the chipset driver, then updates, then graphic driver; etc. I have tried installing the driver in Safe Mode; installing with Administrator rights; updating the driver via Device Manger; always the same result.

I have tried every version of NVIDIA driver available for vista x64 - the driver that came on the retail disk, the drivers on the EVGA website, the driver on NVIDIA website. Always the same result.

The only success I have had is when I did a clean install with my old XFX 7900GT. This works fine as long as I leave the driver that came loaded with Vista x64. I get 5.8 and 5.9 on the Vista Experience chart, and I can play games like CoD4 no problem. But, if I try to update the driver to a newer version the results are the same as above with 8800GT.

Has anyone else experienced this? Help please!
