Video driver problem

Trying to install a Radeon 9800 PRO. Everything works fine with the windows default drivers, but as soon as I load the Catalyst drivers, the screen goes blank as soon as windows starts up. I get the logon screen, and then the desktop starts to load, but then the screen blanks out. Uninstall drivers in safe mode, and now everything is working fine. I tried a different download and got exact same results. Am I correct in thinking the card is bad? Thanks.

Try installing 4.12 (Old a little, but it's just a test) and see if it works. Some people seem to have problems with the 5.x Catalysts.

Maybe the system isn't supplying enough power into the card, or the installation defaults to a resolution your monitor doesn't handle?

I can boot to VGA mode and it comes up at 640x480 ok. When I try to change that, even to something simple like 800x600, the screen blacks out.

Athlon 64 2800, 512 mb ddr memory (2 256 sticks) Abit KV8 motherboard, and 500 watt power supply that came with the case (yes, I know its a cheap PSU, but its not like I'm trying to run a lot off of it)
