Hi,

I am trying to assemble my first PC.

Newbie question if you will

Operating systems seem to only have limite options in choosing video drivers.

Is there a way to load better defaults or to get better back up video drivers, so if i have problems.. I can at least see the screen ok?

My rig is:
Ati x1900XTX
AMD x2 4800
Asus A8N32

Can anyone think of some good drivers I can load, not so much the Ati drivers, but ones that can be on the system at DOS level or whatever, so if problem with Ati drivers in installing Linux or XP, I can see the screen ok.

Resolution and image quality when i installed Samsungs Magic Tune was terrible as it conflicted with my Ati Driver.. system no longer even saw the Ati driver.. and reverted back to some kind of driver from hell or no driver

Same with my first install of puppy linux.. no driver.. or conflict.. terrible screen resolution

So.. is there some site or place I can go to learn more.. and get some back up drivers or whatever on my new rig so that I can SEE?

Thanks!!

MagicTune must not properly support your graphics hardware.

Linux can not legally include accelerated drivers. It should provide a default VESA-compliant 24-bit mode though. It won't necessarily automatically detect the native resolution of your LCD (if applicable), so that could be a problem.

redundancy.. that is what I am looking for..

Anyone?:)
