Video Display Issues

I just received my computer that I shipped overseas (US -> Ireland). I found that my hard drive bay had come loose during the trip and must have been moving around. When I turned my computer and monitor on, the monitor didn't respond and the power light kept blinking as if the computer was asleep. I changed ports (there are two on the card) and the monitor recognized that it had been unplugged and plugged back in, however it still didn't display anything and the power light kept blinking away.

I moved the video card to another PCI slot and the monitor worked all of a sudden, but the display reverted to the lowest resolution and there were a ton of white rectangular lines all over the screen. These would periodically flash or become distorted when I moused over them.

I'm thinking that this sounds like a video card issue rather than motherboard or the monitor?

I would highly doubt it is the monitor. Hard drive sloshing about will definitely do some damage, possibly to the motherboard and video card. Having the one slot work but not the other means there could definitely be some damage to the motherboard.

If possible, try the GPU in another PC, and/or another GPU in this PC.

Yeah, I don't think it's the monitor either.

I wish I had another computer to swap GPUs with so I could see if it's the MB or the GPU that's the issue. I'd be surprised if it's the MB since the computer does turn on and function - seems odd that damage to it would solely affect the PCI-e slots.

Enable the integrated graphics on your CPU/motherboard and connect through that. Should help narrow things down.

On board integrated graphics works just fine and no monitor issues.

Seems like it's either the video card or the PCI-E slots on the MB got selectively damaged?

You nailed it. Based on your first post though, I would think you could spot the physical damage. If you don't see it on the motherboard, I would take the cover off the video card and take a good look.

I would say it is most likely the video card though.
