Video Corruption Problem

Hey guys, I'm having trouble with video corruption playing 3d games. After playing for 20-30 minutes, the screen messes up completely. When I task out, the colors on my windows desktop are like 4 colors. Only doing a cold reboot can fix the problem. Do you think my video card is running too hot? I have two monitors and I loaded up the temperature gauge on the other one. It reaches up 80 degrees C on load, 58 degrees idle. Maybe it's the crappy XFX heatsink? BTW, my video card isn't overclocked at all. My CPU is overclocked, but I don't think thats it since it shouldnt corrupt the display if its running too hot.

80C is quite a fair bit out of normal for a 6600GT. Maybe try replacing the VGA cooler with something better from let's say, Zalman?

When this happens again, check your BIOS and see if any artifacts appear. I had a similar problem with my 9800 Pro.

No artifacts. I found that if I disable my 2nd LCD monitor, it helps out with stability. I thought that was the culprit but the same thing just happened again.

Ok I've been running Guild Wars, which has been giving me trouble as well. I tried it in windowed mode and the game does glitch, but not as bad as I described earlier. If I task out and task back in the game fixes itself. Any new thoughts on this?

try bringing your cpu back to normal cloc kspeeds and see what happens.

I have a Prolink 6600gt, and I don't think it's got past 58 degrees even under load (that I have seen, anyway; I haven't checked it that much but have looked at it after playing a few different games for a couple of hours when I first installed it). It runs at 48 degrees idle.

If reducing your PC clock speeds doesn't help, I think I would shop for a new heatsink for the card.
