video corruption on boot

Sometimes when I boot up my computer, the display is all scrambled. Rebooting or switching the power supply off then on fixes the problem. It seemed like it started happening after I upgraded catalyst drivers to the newest version. I have a Radeon 9800 pro running on an Epox 8RDA3+ mobo.

It seems to only do it after it sits for a while.

Any ideas?

I had the exact "video corruption on COLD boots" problem with my 9800pro. Dell sent me a replacement card and the 2nd card works fine. Might be harware problem. I tried many solutions with the 1st one, no success.

It could be the card, but I would check your video cables too. I doubt that it is the catalyst driver, but to be safe go back to the previous driver to be sure.

I have a 9500np that does the same thing. Once re-booted it works fine all day long. A total power down though, and I have to re-boot it.

I don't think so....plus it just started doing this the day before yesterday....I have had it since last October so I kinda feel like the card is going bad. I don't have another powersupply to try but it is also fairly new...bought in the same month....it's an Antec 350W PS that came with the case......Someone told me it could be the motherboard going bad too

Any Ideas which one I should RMA first? lol

The power chain from the card was plugged into the ps and had a hd connected to it...i moved the hard drive to a connector on the ps and not the vid card...however the video card and hd are on the same ps chain...there is no way around this since i have 3 fans 2 harddrives and the video card

I fixed my cold boot problem. The regulating transistor marked "U91" on the PCB did not have solder on one leg. There are a total of four of these marked: U89, U90, U91 and U92 on the edge of the PCB on the side oposite the GPU and located along the outside edge of the PCB near their corrsponding MEM chip.

same problem, I took the card out and air blasted it and everything is fine. I have to repeat every month or two but it works.

I had the same problem I've rmad the video card and mobo but Newegg sent them to the wrong place ARGH! Now I have to wait till I get back to college to get my stuff : (
