video confrencing between domain users

Hello all

Would you all kindly help me find an easy way to start a video conference session (Net meeting or any other software that you recommend) between two users that are logged on the domain.

its easy to call an IP address or the PC DNS name but that?s not always possible as users don?t know the IP address or PC name of their colleges PCs + users can log on to different PCs.

thanks

also, is there a very easy way to get the IP address of a user that is logged on to the domain. i guess that would allaw me to use netmeeting quickly

Why not create cnames with easily identifiable naming conventions such as bmarley.domain.local - so when someone types bmarley as a host, it points to something like 002desktop.domain.local ?

i dont think that changing the names of the PCs is an option our network is huge (more than 10000 pcs) and many users have more than one pc. keeping track of a users and their pcs is a headache. i am looking for a more idiotproof way of doing it

the netsend comand works fine by simply typing the command and then the username (i think active directory is doing its magic). i was wondering if i could do something like that with netmeeting or anything like it

I never said to change the hostnames, I said create CNAMES - host aliases in DNS. I'm sure you can script it but you're right, if you can target dynamic hosts using currently logged in AD users, that would be the way to go - but that's assuming you are roaming profiles - not very common for a network with thousands of PCs.

not the most straight forwordway of doing it but that may be enough to work. i am stilll not sure how you create a script that runs every time a user logs in to create a cname on the DNS server and then delete it when he logs out

i wish there was something simpler. cant i get active directory to somehow help me

Try opening a ticket with Microsoft support. They won't charge you a dime if it's not possible. Otherwise they'll talk/help you remotely you all day at a fixed price.
