Video Component Cable

My mom just recently bought a new high definition television set along with the cables to go with it. Normally, I don't have problems with setting up the electronics but I can't seem to solve this problem.

So I've set everything up as it's supposed to be, placed the cables where they should go (red to red, blue to blue, green to green) but I only receive the colour red in my picture.

Any ideas?

Only the red. If I remove the red and just use green and blue or even just one of the two, my picture will be in black and white.

I also have sound cables plugged in.

Sounds like you've got bad cables or bad connector(s).

Try a different set of RCA cables - almost any will work, there's nothing unique to "component" cables except the color of the connector 🙂

If you get the same result, then you may have bad connectors on either the HDTV or the device you're connecting to it. What are you connecting?

I just came back from replacing the cables and I still end up with the same result. I've also tried regular A/V cables which work just fine but don't give the pretty picture quality I desire. ;P

Is this from your DVD player? I had to go into my DVD player's settings and change it to component for the red shade to go away. Didn't have to do this with other DVD players but my latest samsung had to do this.

So in the end, the problem didn't occur from the cables after all. Just my DVD players. Thanks a lot PurdueRy and everyone else! Although I feel a lot less smarter... Haha.

Again, thanks!
