Well, of course I know it's possible. We have internet, we have webcams, and the other day my friend was telling me about a program called "NetMeeting" or something like that.

Anyway, I was curious what it's all like at this point. Does anyone here actually ever use video chat? Is it easy? Is it reliable? Is it super-ass jerky, even with broadband? Is the sound in sync well with the video? (Is this something worth taking a look at yet, or does it still need to be tweaked and perfected a bit more before the average user can enjoy and appreciate it?)

Thanks guys.

well, my biggest problem with it is the camera itself. I have set up many Polycom systems that run over the LAN that are awsome. The problem with the normal user is that they are quite limited by their camera. Most web cams are pretty low in resolution unless you spend a lot of money on one, which most people aren't very inclined to do at the moment.

My friends is a Flash developer, and we tested the Flash Communication MX Server ... it did wonders to his 56k connection. Extremely low bandwith audio and video ... the example app worked very well.

I use the video feature in MSN Messenger in XP to chat with my family all the time. Its works very well and is easy to setup.
