video card's TV OUT to a sony Wega tv?!?

hi, i am building a system for the first time, and i was wondering, if i get a video card
with the TV out, then can i use my 32" sony wega tv as the monitor by connecting this
s-video output to my tv?!?

any help would be very much appreciated, since it will save me some money on the lcd monitor.
thanks in advance.

You could do that, but your screen resolution would be pretty pathetic. All 'Wega' means for Sony TVs is that they are flat CRTs. It doesn't mean that they can support typical computer monitor resolutions. That is unless you have a HDTV version, but that would be a couple thousand to buy, so I doubt you have one of those.

You might be able to run one of those TVs at 800x600, but I think 640x480 is more likely. I would pick up a cheapy 17" monitor and save yourself a lot of headaches and trouble. You can still use the Wega for watching DVDs and the like, but you'll never want to use it as a primary monitor for your computer.

tvout cant be enabled until you have the OS and video drivers installed, so you would have to have a monitor around.
also, the picture quality will not be great -- text is very hard to read

Yes you can. It will be TV quality. It will not be LCD or CRT monitor quality. I'm doing it right now and it works great for movies but I wouldn't want to use it as my primary display, it would probably give me a massive headache.
