Hi

I just recently decided i wanted to start playing games on my pc nothing major, I upgraded my card first all to a Geforce FX5500 (sold a bung at computer shop) performance was rubbish and i tested the card in 3dmarks 05 getting a score of 851 which looks low from what i read online.

Next i got my hands on a Radeon 9800pro from ebay, fitted a vga silencer and set it away, not had chance to test it on games yet but in 3d marks 05 it got a score of 1836 which appears much better but ive read online that some people got 18000 !!!

Are these results typical ? is are these score different to what i read online because of 3d marks version ??

Any help guys ?

Different versions of 3dmark use different score numbers. A 9800p would get 18000 in 3dmark01, but it gets about 2500 in 3dmark05.

Yep. 05 is a tough cookie, you're not going to score very high with ANYTHING in 05.

Well, there's your culprit - a p4 2.4 is not exactly fast, especially for 3D games. If you had a fast AthlonXP or A64, or maybe a p4 3+ ghz, you'd be getting a higher score.

You could have gotten a 128-bit 9800pro instead of a 256-bit.

Are you saying there are 9800 pro's that are sold with a listed spec of 128 bit ?

I use a program called ati tray tool to OC my card, and there's an option to display info about you card, it says how many bits is the memory bus plus a bunch of other info. That program has everything, and it's a small file too.
