Is there a master comparison chart posted anywhere to tell the difference now between all card versions? Too many versions of the same chip.

Without starting a flame war what is the Best bang for the buck now what is the most costly from ATI and NVIDIA without a war on which manufacturer.

Im assuming 6600GT from nvidia but no longer sure on ATI side what is best bang for the buck?

ATI's best bang for the buck mid-range card right now is probably the X800GTO/GTO2. Nvidia's is probably the 6800GS now (just over $200 I think, and as fast as a 6800GT).

THG PCIe Chart
THG AGP Chart

The best price/performance always favors the lowest priced card, which is not always what you want. Right now of the NVidia side, the 6600GT for $130 is great, but so is the 6800GS for $200. ATI's would be the X800 GT/GTO/GTO2 if you can find them at good prices.

as it is in order of suffix denoting best performance and suffix denoting worst performance in ATI's field: XT>XL>GTO2>Pro~(similar)GTO>GT~NS (no suffix)> SE.

for nvidia its much simpler: Ultra>GT~GS>NS (no suffix)>LE

You're also forgetting the XT, SE, and GTO for nVidia.

if you think about it, the naming COULD be way worse.think about it. (pretend no x850 or pe) you have an x800xt, an xl, a pro, a gt, a gto, a gto2, and an se. what if they went crazy by using numbers. x800xt, x801=xl, x802=pro, etc. at least they used letters easy to remember. what's harder, mf or gt? (mf short for milf)

This is exactly what I am talking about.
XL
XT
GTO2
PRO
FTO
NS
LE
NO SUFFIX
XT SE
GTO (NV)
ULTRA
GT
GS
NS
LE

15 Notations. This is just rediculous. Not to mention all the numbers associated with these suffixes.

Yeah--it's only a matter of time before a video card marketing guy with a sense of humor decides to name a new line of card "MILF". It would draw attention to the card and get people to look at its specs. (Hey, it worked for BFG.)
