Video Cards for Making movies

A friend of mine is asking me to build his computer, he is trying to make movies with it, with I believe Avid.

I only really know stuff about gaming, so was wondering if a normal graphics card such as the 8800 GT is fine for film making, or is there a better video card solution for his build?

Thanks

That should be fine. I think video card don't really matter too much with video editing, unless the program can use the video processor to aid encoding/decoding.

I'm not very sure about the advantages of using a workstation class GPU ( Quadro or FireGL), I've read somewhere recommending these, but given that these cards are so expensive, I'd save the $ and get a better CPU, or even a dual CPU solution.
