A 32 MB GeForce 2 GTS, I paid $188 for mine. You can get them retail for around $250.

I second that.. I'd recomend an Asus board, supposedly they have the best 2D..

Look on the hot deal and for sale/trade boards. Lots of good deals there on GF2s, V5 5500, and Radeons. There are two guys selling new OEM GF2s for $170-188.

I have't tried one yet, so take this with a grain of salt; but I would look at a 32MB Radeon DDR. Look at several reviews between it and the GTS. For me anyway, the greater picture quality would be more important. Try CompUSA or Electronics Boutique. They will let you return a product simply because you don't like it.

For a gamer I'd pick a flavour of GeForce 2 for any budget except sub-$100, and lets face it, if you aren't willing to spend $100 on your video card you aren't much of a gamer :)

MX, GTS, or Ultra, 32 meg or 64, TV-out or not, and in the case of MX DualDisplay or not, there is a lot of choice with the GF2 family, whichever suits you best.

My favourites are Asus and Hercules/Guillemot.

*Grumbles a lot at this recommendation* I've always liked 3dfx but right now the GeForce2 family really makes the most sense.

I have the Gladiac but ASUS seems to be a better one for the money. At least in speed. ELSA has a 6 year warranty. Dunno how 2D compares on these.
