Video Card Woes *All better now but another question inside*

So I had just downloaded Rivatuner. I was playing around with the tweaking my 7800GT. Anyhow, I tested my overclock and it said it failed the little test. So I clicked it back to no overclock, and it said that I had to reboot. So I did. When I booted back up, my screen is all messed up. Every 20 seconds the screen goes black, and when it's not black it is all "scratchy" I use "scratchy" for lack of a better term. It looks like different colors are sorta scratched on. Anyhow, it slows down everything and I can't open any programs, like Rivatuner, to try to fix it. I think that maybe it's trying to run at my original overclock I was playing with, but I can't get back into Rivatuner to see. Help!

Okay F8 just took me to boot order. I'm on an Asus A8N-SLI Premium. Will safe mode even work for me? Anybody have any other suggestions?

Oh. No. My friend told me though to unplug the power cord than press the on button and let it sit for 10 minutes to let the power cycle or something. I'll see if that works.

Reset your cmos (getting rid of all your overclocking...hope you recorded your values somewhere!) and boot in safe mode. Uninstall RivaTuner, since it only does softmods that should get rid of any changes.

If you're still having problems after that you may have fried your card. It's an eVGA though so you shouldn't have any problems RMAing it.

All better now. Booted in safe mode, uninstalled my display driver. Booted up again normal and reinstalled it. Thanks everyone.

Everythings back to normal now, but I still wanna overclock my video card 🙂. Aren't I persistent? Anyway, will someone explain to me how to use Rivatuner since I obviously don't know how.

Well, you've got a few choices...

1. In Rivatuner (you're going to have to uninstall and re-install if you haven't already since you updated the drivers) you have a choice to turn off the "Test" button.

2. Download PowerStrip. The free version is kind of annoying since it pops up an "information" window every time you use it, but a good overclocking program. No test button.

3. Download CoolBits. Integrated overclocking on your nVidia control panel. Have to use a "Test" button.

EDIT: Here's a good guide to using RivaTuner:
