Video card without sound

I have an Asus A7V333 mobo, with online sound. I bought an ATI 9700 pro all in wonder board, with video capabilities. Well I am not getting sound, so I exchanged for the ATI 9000 pro with most of the capabilities, and still no sound. In both cards I do get video. I toll called ATI 4-5 times. No solution. I did upgrade the Cmedia drivers

I will return my board, and I am looking for alternative solutions. I am not a big time gamer, and I do have a TV at my computer. I just thought that being that I was upgrading I would go for the whole enchilada. Is it better to buy just the video card and add additional capabilities as need, rather than the all in one concept. What do you suggest?

In both cards I do get video.

Well, yes. They are video cards, after all. They are not sound cards.

The AIW 9700 Pro is vastly more capable than the 9000, but it, like any video card, will not produce sound.

Perhaps you have a computer-savvy friend who can install your up-grades for you.

I cabled a connection to my online sound mobo, and there is no sound to go with the video. That is the problem.

Actually thats not true. The Rage Theater/Theater 200 chips do handle the sound, require WDM audio drivers and pass it along to your sound card and also support S/PDIF output-bypassing the soundcard completely to hook to an external amplifier.

You do have to hook the video card to the soundcard to get audio, either Externally (prefered method) or Internally. You'll need to do this to connect to Dolby Digital AC-3 Decoder. To output to a TV or VCR, you'll need to do This

You'll just have to substitute your onboard sound connectors for the soundcard connectors in the diagrams, but it all works the same. Believe me, my videos all have sound🙂

This question is a little off my original topic, but related. Was I very much better off with the Radeon 9700 Pro, over the 9000 pro looking toward the next year?

Although I am not getting sound in either of the 2 cards (9700 & 9000) it was suggested that I get a inexpensive sound card, instead of using onborad sound.

are the audio drivers for the onboard sound card installed? also make sure onboard sound is enabled in the BIOS.

Of course, but mostly gaming performance and some advanced video functionality and connectivety. Personally, I like the AIW type cards as they have the best feature set and are integrated together nicely for a better price. They tend to hold their value MUCH better also. A seperate tuner/capture card is perfectly acceptable however, and even the NV VIVO cards(or other) coupled with a VCR's tuner makes an acceptable solution as well. More than 1 way to skin this cat.
