Video card - what to get?

I've built myself a new gaming machine, but kind of lost on what to get for a video card. I'm looking for something that is going to run the new games like Shadowbane, Doom III, etc, but nothing overkill. I've been looking at the G4 4200 TI, but really not set on anything yet.

My machine so far:
Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra
512 pc2700 DDR
40gig 7200rpm hdd
Athlon XP 2200+

Any input is greatly appriciated.

😉 Well on a budget Rad8500 cards are excellent if you can live without AA and high quality Aniso. Ideally you want at least a 4200 which usually o/c to 4400 or 4600 speeds and will really show improvement with every mhz your CPU can throw at it. Rad9700 is clearly the best, but it is also $350-400 and the price will fall much lower over the next few months with the competition coming from nVidia's NV30. We may even see budget (well $200) Rad9700 or NV30 cards, in the meantime a 4200 will give you excellent perf without breaking the bank and will amke the wait for the next great 'budget' card that bit more pleasurable.

Nice setup. Similar to my new one, I but I chose the Epox board cuz according to Anand's review the Soyo they had was having problems with Audigy's. Anywayz...I got a 9700, why get everything else decked out and then skimp on video 🙂

Um, because the video card costs $400!!!! That's like buying a PS2 and an Xbox or Gamecube (savings on the Cube). Besides, getting a GF4 Ti4200 is hardly "skimping out" on video; getting a GF4 MX or worse is!
