Video card warranty

Say you buy a video card from eBay and it is broken or breaks after a some use. What if the video card has a 3 year warranty or a lifetime warranty and the card has only been our for about 2 years. Will they still ask for a receipt or warranty card or something?

He says "After playing games for many hours, I'm unsure of the life span of the video card, it has worked the last time I tried it."

I'm guessing its about to break.

Also...it's a PNY...they suck. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't honor a warranty if you bought it from ebay.

Most manufacturer's warranties are non-transferrable. In fact, the warranty must explicitly say that it is transferable for it to be so. If it says nothing you can't assume that the warranty will transfer to you - it won't.

I was looking for a card a few weeks ago and saw some decent deals (nothing fantastic) which became even worse when the seller hypes up a 'lifetime warranty', but the manufacturer's webpage clearly says it only applies to the original purchaser.

The risk isn't worth the $10 in savings.

I'm pretty sure PNY also requires the original receipt so if he doesn't have that don't go for it. You could always try the old it was a gift so I don't have the receipt trick though. I personally wouldn't risk it for a couple bucks.

When buying an item like that, i'd get it from a seller with a higher rating, and a more descriptive terms of purchase. I got my 9700 pro off ebay, I got it from a seller with 200+ transactions, good feedback, and a picture of the actual item (which yours eppears to have) Those are the 3 things I look for when buying computer gizmos on ebay. By the by, check this out. 6800 from newegg. buying new doesn't cost you a whole lot more.

I bought the same card (eVGA) from TigerDirect a few weeks ago for the same price, but it had a $30 rebate on top of that. Haven't gotten my rebate yet, but the card is great. I unlocked the extra pipes and don't have any artifacts. Started with around 3400 score and went to just over 3900. I haven't tried overclocking it yet.

I've heard too many questionable things about the PNY card. I wouldn't even consider it without the warranty. Besides, with the shipping costs its already AT LEAST $166 on ebay - It will probably top out over $180. Spend the extra $10 and get the eVGA with a lifetime warranty (they just boosted the '2 year' to a lifetime warranty).
