video card v.s ram

what is faster in general for gaming,
1gb ram and a 9800pro
or 512mb ram and a 6600gt

i have an AMD64 3300+(2.4ghz,256kL2)
Asus mATX mb.

a newer video card will be the most determining factor while playing games (except bf2). a 6600gt will do better than a 9800 pro.

i plan to play GTA:SA, BF2, Quake4(kills 9800 🙁 ) and HL2

i have 2 optical, no pci cards , 1 hdd, 1 case fan, obviously a cpu fan, a cpu and nothing else installed. will 14A on the +12v rail handle a 6600gt or 6800nu? i also have 25A on +5V and 27A on +3.3V rails. voltage is pretty decent.

You are going to want the ram, and the better card too if you really plan on playing those games. Sorry for the bad news 🙁 I would consider a 6800 if I were you...

will it run on my ps? specs are on post #4. im looking to get a used 6800 or new 6600gt and i wonder if it will run with 14A 12+V rail. i have no pci cards and 2 optical and 1 harddisk.

hmmm.... I think that you are going to want more power... bummer... that is pretty weak. You can try it, the vanilla 6800's take the least amount of power out of all the mid to upper range cards....

well ive noticed that bf2 can suck up to 840 megs of ram on my system, which has 2 gigs, l would not like to run bf2 with 512 megs, 1 gig would be alot better, saying that though, the single most important part of a pc for games is its video card, so you ve asked a question like, ''does my car need a motor or wheels more'' half life on my pc can use up to 508 megs of ram, l would upgrade the video card to the best you can afford, then save for the 1 gig mark in ram, that way you will get smooth gaming im most games for alot longer.......
Fundamently its mo bo, cpu, vid card, ram, hd, sound card, usually in that order by gamers...

does the pci-e and agp versions of the 6600gt have the same latency ram? i noticed agp is clocked 100mhz lower on the memory but do they actually use different memory chips? also, what is the pwoer draw for 6600gt?

I have a very quiet extra psu with 10A on the 12V rail. do yuo think i can sorta rig that for about a month before i can afford a new psu?

im thinking of sorta using the !)a psu to power my hdd/optical drives so that my main 14A psu can power my 6800 or 6600gt.
is there any damage ot sending current to a optical drive ro HDD befroe a pc is turned on?

The startup process would go somethingl iek this.

1. turn on external psu so my drives will recieve current
2. turn on rest of my pc with main on button so that rest of my pc starts up.

will this casue any damage to parts?

it's ghetto know but at least the extra psu is super quiet and pretty stable rails.
