Ok so I bought a new mobo cpu and a 7800gt back in Christmas.
I havent really looked into vid card benchs and the new card coming out ( 7900 ).
My question to those that know is on a budget of around $300-500 whats my best uprgade. I WAS thinking adding another 7800gt ( $300 ) for sli and using the rest for some thing else. ( probally water cooling ).
Or would wating for the 7900 be worth it? Then selling the 7800 for whatever. Or even goin ati 1900xt?
Any input would be helpful.
Im not buyin untill may if that changes anything
Thx in advance

I usually game at 12x10 nothing really cranked for fps anyways.
I might want to crank it up for Elder scolls when it comes out.
Im more of a fps whore then anything.

Im running a 3700+ @ 2.6 soon to be 3.0 on water so i dont think i should be bottlenecked

SLI will not provide a worthwhile boost at 12x10, you're better off selling your 7800GT and buying a x1900 or 7900 when those come out.

Wait for the 7900s to come out and then look at your options. Shouldnt be too much longer now.

Even 7900 isnt worth it for you. With 7800GT and resolutions you play at, I'd wait till G80, DX10 support and Vista.

I agree. Sell the 7800GT and get a Radeon X1900XT.

If you have an eVGA card AND you can step up to a 7900GT for cheap then do it. Otherwise I would wait until G80.

G80 is a long wait man.

In between their will be lots of games that need playing, inc Spore, Quake Wars, HL2 Aftermath, LOTR Battle for middle earth 2, new Splinter Cell, Prey, new Medieval wars, Eldar Scrols Oblivian, Ghost Recon and many more, and if were lucky perhaps even UT2k7?

This is a common misconception.

Have you tried playing COD2 and FEAR at 1280x1024 all settings maxed, 4xTRSSAA 16xAF??? What about SLI AA?

I guarantee both those games can bring a 7800GT SLI rig to its knees with high enough IQ settings. Trust me, I know!

I know man, but the OP just bought their card 3 months ago and only plays at 1280x1024. They want to run Oblivion well, will a 3700+ and 7800GT not run it well at 1280x1024?

OK...I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but I'm faced with a similar dilemma and thought it a waste to start a new post. I ordered the EVGA mobo & 7800GT combo from ZZF for $330 AR about a month ago. I mainly ordered this combo, because it was about the same price as a DFI board and a 6800GS. I didn't have a spare PCI-e video card, so I bought an OLD PCI video card to tide me over until I got a new 7800GT. ZZF contacted me yesterday and said that they don't have these cards in stock anymore, and they're not getting any more, so they are refunding my purchase. The cool part is that they're refunding the full amount, which means I truly did get a free motherboard. The bad part is that I'm not sure what card to purchase.

I've been looking at the 7800GT for $270 shipped AR and the X850XT for $170 shipped AR. I have a VF700-cu that I will put on whatever card I buy, and I will overclock as much as I can without artifacts. The most graphics-intensive games I play right now are Doom 3 and Quake 4. So, I'm wondering what card you would recommend. If I get the 7800GT, it will probably be at least a year before I upgrade again. If I get the X850XT, I might just use it until the 7900s come down in price (maybe around Christmas) and then sell the X850XT. I have a CRT, so I game at at least 1600x1200 resolution. Is it worth the extra $100 for the 7800GT? Even though my board is SLI, I doubt I'll go that route, so there's no need to take that into consideration.

Thanks!
