2 x 120gb SSD
1 X 1tb
1 X 750gb
XFX 7970 DD 3gb

my current monitors are 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 res
i would like to upgrade one of my monitors in a few months to a 2560x1600 res monitor
i am currently debating and i have done some research on the new ati and nvidia cards
but i am stuck i cant decide ,
between the r9 290 and the 780gtx

what do you guys suggest for that res

What games do you play? Your HD 7970 is actually pretty good even for 2560x1600, especially if you can overclock it. The R9 290/GTX780 aren't particularly big upgrades, but with current prices, I'd probably take the R9 290.

Just understand that it's not necessary to get a new video card for the higher resolution.

agree with Termie

That isn't a huge jump and you should get playable performance on the 7970 when overclocked and if you turn off AA/AF and maybe play at high detail instead of ultra.

I would say crossfire is decent, especially with some improvements seen in latest mantle drivers. Also, consider the 280x, it will also crossfire with a 7970 as it is basically the same card.
