I have a P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard / P4 2.81GHz / 1.00GB RAM / Gainward 128MB DDR GeForce 5600 running on XP Pro.

I just bought a PNY GeForce 7600 GS 512MB AGP 8X. Before I open the box and try to install it I was wondering if this card is a decent upgrade from what I have now and if it will be able to handle the newer games like Fear and the BF.

It will be a big jump in performance. Whether or not it can handle the latest games will depend on the resolution of your monitor. You probably won't be be able to play at 1600 x 1200 or the like, but should be OK at 1280 x 1024.

On second thought, you may have to settle with 1024 x 768 for the smoothest gameplay for newer games. You should be able to easily overclock it to 7600 GT speeds.

The 7300GT in my Mac Pro is enough to run most games at 1280x1024, except Oblivion which runs smoothly at 1024x768, that being said it IS paired with with dual dual cores Xeon processors.

Stop don't open that card!
Take it back and grab yourself a 7600gt with 256 megs memory This is what you want to play any of the latest games. You'll be lucky to get 800x600 with med detail with that card and your cpu. The 512 megs of ram ia a waste for a card of that speed . It won't utilize it at all. It will never overclock to 7600gt speeds without a severe volt mod. Trust me !

I'm sure others will back me here.
