I am running an AMD dual core process, 2 gigs ram, and WinXp. I currently have a GeForce 7800 GT (PCI-Express). With video card prices so low in some of the Nvidia and AMD/ATI line cards, I was thinking of upgrading. My main concern is that I am still running DirectX9 and I am not sure it will be worth it.

I was think about snagging a GeForce 9800 GTX for about $160.

What is your opinion?

i would not spend over 100 for such an old system. it gets to a point where its not worth investing so much money into something like that. the investment just isnt worth the return

For a $100 you can get a quite a video card these days.

He could always upgrade his mobo and CPU later even if he bought something like 4870. he is still running a dual core AMD. Low end but not bad for games.

Good point.

I haven't upgraded in so long, because I haven't felt the need to.

I may consider a less expensive card.

Thanks.
