Hello all,
I am getting ready for the ol' upgrade later this summer in preparation for Half-Life 2 and other great games coming out this holiday season. Right now, I'm running a Pentium III 1.0 GHz with 512 MBs SDRAM and a GeForce 3. I plan to get either a 2.4 or 2.6 GHz Pentium 4 (800 FSB), the Asus P4P800 motherboard, and a gigabyte of Samsung 3200 DDR SDRAM. I'm not going to have much money left over for a video card, but I'm worried that Half-Life 2 (as well as other new games) won't fare too well with the old GeForce 3. For about $150.00 (per pricewatch.com prices) what video would you all recommend? I've been looking into the GeForce FX5600 Ultra, which can be found for as low as $133.00 on Pricewatch. I've seen some framerates tests, and this card seems to fare well with such upcoming "high-horsepower-sucking" games such as Doom 3. What is the ATI alternative? Is there a better card than what I am looking at now? Thanks for the help.
