Slowly.. painstakingly slowly putting parts together for my first assembly of a computer.

Limited number of pci and pci-e has me thinking.. some of what I want.. might have to do externally using usb.

I did buy a Creative X-Fi Extreme Music sound card.. but.. not sure I have room for.. it was on sale at CompUSA last week $109 before $30 rebate.

I am pretty sure I need at least one and maybe two pci slots for work related stuff.. so..

For recording on-line sports... viewing tv... etc.. what options do I have without using a pci slot?

I am a videophile.. not an audiophile.. I got some cheap Logitech Z 5300-e speakers.. and could get by with onboard sound if needed.. but then I would need to return the sound card.

so.. back to video..

My goals.

to record from set top box for the channel selected already

and/or to record from a DVR like Tivo

and... in worst case, at least be able to record and watch games from on-line source, like from College Sports or ESPN.

My budget is flexible... willing to pay through the nose, but hoping for best bang for the buck.

Thanks
