Which video card should i get for 150 bucks? Right now i have a radeon 9000 pro 128MB, the card must be 128MB or more, and i must see apretty good performance boost. What do you think would be good? Right now i have my eye on a radeon 9600 pro, and a gf4 ti4200 128MB.

would a ti4800SE OC to ti4600 speeds?

and tell me the clocks of the following cards please:

Radeon 9600 PRO:
GF4 TI4200 128MB:
GF4 TI4600 128MB:
GF4 TI4800SE:

9600 pro is dx9 also isnt it?

so? i doubt he will even use those. and plus the 9600pro is hardly powerful enough to use AA and AF on good games anyway....its a weak card IMO

dx9! dx9! so what???? a few features here and there, nothin special, especially since when REAL dx9 games come out, a 9600 isnt goona do you much good anyway. and yes, a ti-4800se will blow past 4600 speeds

Yeah true it doesn't really have enough power for a lot of newer games to get good frame rates while running AA and AF. But in some games it's very likely he will use it. I know many people can't live without it once they try it. Personally if I was going to get something from the nvidia gf4 ti series I'd get the cheapest ti4200 I could find. Anyone you get will oc well past ti4400 speeds. You can get a ti4200 for $100, so I don't feel paying the extra $40 for a ti4800se is really worthwhile, especially when for close to that price you can get something that will be much better with AA/AF enabled.

thx for the replies, Im trying to decide between the 9600 pro and the ti4800se, so one is more powerful then the other untill aa/af is on. Chances are i would be running just max af, nothing else. what would be faster then?

and, what would be the performance increase from a 9000 pro to either of these cards? I can run 1024X768 max settings and 16X AF in ut2003 and hold over 40 fps average, and sometimes over 60. And, what would be better at playing doom3/half life 2? 9600 pro, or ti4800se?

9600 pro will be faster with af on. link
ti4800se will be between the ti4600 and the ti4200 for performance. You can see turning af on really does knock the performance level of those cards down a bit. Also, with the ati cards you can use the higher levels of af. The max on nvidia cards is 8x.

thanks to all that helped, after looking at that review i have made my mind up. Although the radeon 9600 pro wins when aa/af is enabled, if there not enabled the ti4600 is just so much faster, that i belive i will be getting a ti4800se, thnaks to all that helped me out.

LOL

How WRONG you were. Look at how well the 9600 is on HL2 ... ti4800 pfff

In this hardwarefr review the 9600pro was 18.7% faster than the 4200 overall in 12 games (1600x1200). This would put it close to a 4600. Probably a little faster overall than a 4800SE.

When they ran the benches at ? 10x7 4AA/8AF ? the 9600pro was 86.4% faster than the 4200 which would put it way ahead of a 4600.

I would take 9600pro --- DX9 support, 4800SE is only DX8. As the newer games come out like HL2 you are going to want a card with decent DX9 support.
