Video card temps too high?

Was going to RMA my video card (SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4870 1GB) today but I don't know if it'll do any good or not. The card ran perfectly fine for about a month and then a few days ago artifacts started showing up everywhere. I've been doing some testing the past couple days and noticed the (MEMIO) temp gets to about 90c after only a couple mins. That seem normal? My system is pretty well cooled. I don't know what to think though...had a lot of computer troubles lately so I'm trying not to think about it too much :p

Here's a screenshot of my GPU-Z and ATItool

If I just get the card replaced...would I likely just have the same problems? I can play games for a long time without any artifacts showing up...they usually only show up after 2 hours or so, and temps will look the same while I'm seeing the artifacts, they never get much higher than what is showed in the screenshot above.

I've got the 4870 X2 and mine also runs very hot, although I think that this is a characteristic of the GPU and they are designed to handle high running temps (unlike a CPU).

Bearing this in mind, I don't think 73C at full load is too bad. I heard of people running them in the 80s and 90s.

Mine was running at 48C at idle with 50% fan. At 100% fan, the idle temps were in the high 30s.

I don't have any games at the moment which would stress the GPU too much (plus my new PC is in bits), so I couldn't tell you what my temps are at full load.

What temp does it run at full load with the fan speed at 100%?

I can't figure out how to raise the fan speed to 100% - Is it a bad idea to run it at 100% full speed all the time or just a personal preference? Couldn't find anywhere to raise the fan speed in the bios, atitool, or speedfan.

I figured out how to change my fan speed but it's quite loud on 100%...probably shouldn't let it go 100% all the time :p - Aside from the noise though, would running 100% be a bad idea?

If you can put up with the noise, then it shouldn't be a problem running the fan at 100% all the time.

both mine load @ 45C with fan set at 0.

Like daw says, nothing is wrong. GPU's were meant to run hotter then cpu's.

Daw you need to hurry back on water.

Download ATi tray tools and set your fan speed according to temperature. It's impossible to stand the noise at 100%. You can loose your hearing. My card it's around 65C with the fan at 40%.

I did for about 3 weeks - then again I have bad hearing :)

I only reduced the fan speed because I often leave my PC running through the night and I was finding it difficult to sleep with it running.

I found a happy medium of 50%.

That is still very high from my standards. Actually, in the last days, it's starting to become annoying when I game at night, with my speakers turned down and I keep hearing the fan going up and down, scratching my brains out. I'm really thinking of getting a HR-03 GT.

What Aigo? Fan @ 0? 45C? My GTX 260 Core216SC probably has a similar load, but hell if I know. I've only used that computer for an hour of driver updates. Then it was off to work. But the 2nd Core216 I have is air cooled...
