Video Card Temperature

I have a Leadtek PX6600GT TDH extreme, and since the release 77.77 drivers, I have been idling at the same temperature of 55C, but my load temp goes to the 90s, and occassionally reaches 100C which is when I have the card alarm me. This happens in games like Painkiller and the FEAR demo. Battlefield 2 doesn't go above 90C, but with the 77.30 drivers it was topping out at about 80C. I am wondering whether this is due to something wrong with the drivers, or possibly the card itself. I use driver cleaner, so I don't think it has anything to do with old drivers.

I'm using the Winfox program that Leadtek has, though I am reading the readout on the nvidia properties screen also.

WOW!!! You should NEVER go above 85C with a 6600GT series card. My 6600GT gets to a maximum high of 56 when I have it overclocked to 570/1200. I get worried if it ever goes above 60C. It idles at around 48C. That's with stock cooling.

I just wanted to say thanks for the help, I got an NV silencer, just installed it, and I'm idling at about 40C. My case ambient is down too. Taking off the stock sink, it appeared that the thermal grease had mostly spilled onto the side of the gpu. I think that may have been the problem.

It may not be normal but its pretty common. My card goes up to 100C in Fable and my friend card goes as high as 104C. I'm also using drivers 77.77 so I don't know if it is in cause. I haven't tried latest drivers though.

Check the heatsink on the 6600GT. It has been known not to seat properly causing higher temps than it should be.
