ok so i built my computer about 2 years ago, havent replaced any parts, just added some ram. today my video card just out of no where started making this very weird noise, kind of sounds like maybe the fan is dying...
it constant for the most part, but sometimes it does kinda sputter or get choppy. im thinking either the fan is dying or it is a bit crooked and rubbing on something.

i pulled it out and took a look at it and everything seems fine, cleaned it out again (cleaned it out 3 days ago) and put it back in. all was fine for about 30 minutes, then it started again.

anyone have any advice? if it helps, my card in in my sig.

thanks

edit:

i guess i should also mention i have had problems with my card before (making weird noises). most of the time, just cleaning it out fixed the problem, but this time it didnt work

Seems like a fan problem...all video card fans, or any fan for that matter, do have their lifespans. It may seem like you have to get an aftermarket cooler. For your card, it shouldn't be too hard to find a simple and low-cost solution.

i don't know ... i just DID it to mine ... i couldn't stand the grumbling any longer and knew i had to replace it eventually
[actually you couldn't hear my grumbling over the grinding]
:D

it would be a very temporary solution ... days at best ... it is "stopgap" ... to give you time to get a replacement
