I was wondering if you are able to put a PCI express 3.0 x16 video card in a PCI express 2.0 or 2.1 slot? I've asked people before and some say its possible and some say its not possible.
Yes you can. It will work and current testing suggests it makes almost no difference to the performance of the cards. The PCI-E 2.0 slot still needs to be x16 physically so the card will fit and performance reasons you'll probably want to make sure its also providing a full x16 capability as well. But PCI-E cards are backwards compatible so long as they fit its all good.
Definitely possible. It actually won't make hardly a difference if any for current high end gpu's. We still haven't completely hit the bandwidth ceiling that 2.0 gives us.
