video card recommendation?

really hard to explain... but basically my 9800 pro has green pixels and fluttering colors. the fan still works; it's not overheating... it happens in the bios so it's not a driver issue... i guess the card is bad

so... what is a good agp video card? is ati still king?

uh, have you tried changein monitors? are you using an LCD? cauase that really sounds like a monitor er.. Lcd problem..
you could always just go with another 9800Pro...

Are you sure it's not your monitor? Especially since it's in the BIOS? I always thought that the display for the BIOS was done by the processor.

I'm sure its not my lcd. I have two 2001fp's.. happening on both of them.

I have a ti4600 in right now and it's not doing it...

its like crazy blinking green dead pixels... that are induced by anything moving. It actually looks like I'm o/c too high or something but this card isn't/hasn't been overclocked

Got the same problem on my Sap 9800 pro. Try moving the power connector to the card... move that up and down and watch your screen. For some freaking reason I found it has somthing to do with the power to the card or the way that connector was soldered on. I tried resoldering and it did not fix it... generally if I move the card or the connector just a bit when the pixallation/warping on screen starts to happen, it goes away. I have a Nvidia Ti500 sitting on my desk that I might have to swap out till I figure this out.

My friend has an actual ATI 9800 Pro and I noticed that the power connector to the card is totally different, or angled differently and seems more robust. Again wish I could confirm it's that. However when I placed his card in my rig there was no problems whatsoever for hours. bahh

I have the Sapphire 9800 pro, and I have no problems at all...

If it works fine with another video card, then it isn't cables or the monitors, what PSU are you running?

Maybe the card isn't getting enough power, or maybe it is really dirty power?

Is the molex connector for the video card sharing power with something else like an optical drive?

Is it seated all the way in the AGP port?

Did you overclock it?

Have you tried differnet drivers yet?

I have a sparkle 400w psu.

Molex connector.. I don't remember if it's shared.

It's seated. I took it out and used compressed air to blow all the dust off of it. Same issue.

overclocked? not that I'm aware but I bought it used like 7 or 8 months ago.

drivers? it happens in the bios so no.. prolly not drivers

Warranty? Sounds like the memory on the vid card may be bad or a transistor isn't doing what its supposed to....

You should be able to get an RMA for it from Sapphire Tech.com

I called sapphire, and I don't have the original heatsink and fan... so no go there... bleh

if you changed the heatsink did you try removing and reapplying it? even if the fan is moving if you used cheap thermal paste or the paste has dried up or something it can overheat. try touching the heatsink on the card when it's running and see if it's hot.

Most likely it will matter that you changed the heatsink - there is no way you could proove that you changing the heatsink didnt cause these problems... in their P.O.V. at least...

the heatsink is hot to the touch.... indicating it is working (transferring heat.) it happens in the bios.. after the card has been sitting.. before it's even remotely hot.

They said I could put the stock heatsink back on it and send it in, but I don't have the stock heatsink...

I've seen that before with an old TNT2 Ultra card I had... had to return the card for another, and worked fine after the replacement.
